Bombardier Frederick Ablett (1883-1967), wood machinist and soldier, was born in Woodville, Adelaide, South Australia, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Ablett. Ablett married Mary and had 2 sons (John, 1914, Stanley, 1915).

Ablett enlisted into the Australian Imperial Force on the 17th January 1916 and was initially posted to the 44th Battalion. However, soon after leaving Australia, he transferred to the 3rd Division Trench Mortar Battery on the 16th October 1916.

Ablett served for the next two years in the Royal Australian Artillery on the Western Front. He was wounded in Action in March 1918 and promoted to Bombardier in September 1918. He returned to Australia on the 11th May 1919. 

Ablett died on the 18th September 1967 at the age of 83/84 and was buried at Smithfield General Cemetery, New South Wales. 

Ablett was an Australian soldier who was an expert in close combat,
He was physically and mentally tough, compassionate and courageous,
He led by example, he strove to take the initiative,
He was committed to learning and working for the team,
He believed in trust, loyalty and respect for his country, his mates and the Army,
The rising sun was his badge of honour,
He is an Australian soldier, Always!
