Re-Creating the Banner with Christ Church Grammar School

Throughout February and March 2024, the Christ Church Grammar School Art Department tirelessly recreated the original 44th Australian Infantry Battalion Standard from 1916. The school presented the completed banner to the Memorial on the 27th March 2024. The fact that Christ Church Grammar School is based in Claremont is significant as the original banner was presented by the citizen’s of Claremont.

Mayor of Claremont Signs the Banner

On the 27th March 2024, the Mayor of Claremont signed the re-created banner like

his predecessor did 108 years ago, in 1916. Once again, it was the citizen’s of Claremont that got to present the Banner to the 44th Battalion. Also in attendance was the CGGS Art Department, CCGS Cadets, the POST newspaper and Mr. John Burridge, MG.

Embroidered Carry Belt

Director Luca commissioned Spear of Fame to create a Wool Carry Belt with the

embroidered badge of the 44th Battalion and some of its battle honours. Despite the last minute order, Spear of Fame delivered the fully completed Carry Belt the day before Anzac Day!

Anzac Day March 2024

The 44th Australian Infantry Battalion Memorial was right at the front of the Citizen’s March through Perth on Anzac Day, only behind the PLC Pipe Band.

Director Luca was supported by three of his mates, Kai, Gustav and Gian in carrying the two banners through the city centre.
